Ryan also has a documentary film about his life as a pro runner entitled, "The 41st Day" that takes the audience through his personal journey of the search for courage, faith, and overcoming the impossible.
In 2016, Ryan retired from professional running and turned to coaching and being a full time dad to his beautiful four daughters that he and his wife, professional runner Sara Hall, adopted from Ethiopia in 2015. Ryan is the co-founder of Run Free Training along with Jay Stephenson and they offer a holistic approach to training that places an emphasis on developing an inner fortitude that would serve runners well in both running and life.

Ryan coaches his wife Sara and they just had a huge fall season with Sara running a personal best in the half marathon (1:08:16) in early August and a blazing, epic, sprint to the finish 2nd place in the London Marathon in 2:22:01. Ryan and Sara are a wonderful Christian couple that give a lot of light to the world and founded the Hall Steps Foundation. Steps engages the running community in funding grants to care for the 4-5 million orphaned children and 60,000 children living on the streets in Ethiopia.
